I had long dreamed of seeing Mt. Fuji in spring - framed by soft pink cherry blossoms, just like the postcards. But when I finally made the trip, nature had other plans. Instead of sakura, I was greeted by maple trees blazing in a fierce, fiery red. It was breathtaking in its own right - majestic, intense, unforgettable.
Still, I couldn't let go of that original vision.
So, I gave myself a challenge: to reimagine the scene as I had always pictured it. I transformed the vibrant reds into delicate shades of pink - a gentle, romantic hue that captures a softer dream. A visual daydream, where imagination meets memory.
In this version, Mt. Fuji wears spring like a blush. And though it may not be what I saw, it's exactly what I felt.

Under the warm pink sky, the landscape is dominated by rows upon rows of low-rise buildings — their boxy forms packed tightly together like countless toy blocks scattered across a giant floor. These modest structures, weathered by time and history, speak to a simple, resilient way of life.

Charcoal - Screening
In the heart of the smoke and dust, a man sifts charcoal through a handmade strainer - removing ash and fragments too fine to sell. This is purification by hand, one basket at a time.
When I first arrived, the entire scene felt like a film set cloaked in black smoke. But the screening process, too, kicks up its own cloud of dust - swirling through the air, clinging to skin, eyes, lungs. No one wears a mask here. Just bare faces in a haze of carbon, working under searing heat and heavy labor. A raw, unfiltered world where resilience is the only protection.

Wayang - a term borrowed from Malay - refers to traditional Chinese street opera, a unique cultural relic brought to Singapore by Chinese immigrants in the 19th century. Despite its declining popularity, Wayang continues to be performed at temple festivals and community events, preserving a form of storytelling that’s both poetic and powerful.
I had the rare privilege of stepping backstage, into the heart of the spectacle where transformation begins. There, under the glow of fluorescent lights and surrounded by costumes, snacks, and the soft chaos of preparation, I met this performer.
With thick makeup and exaggerated brows, he paused his routine to amuse me - exhaling a puff of cigarette smoke with a deadpan, almost comical expression. The juxtaposition was striking: the discipline of his craft, the vibrancy of the painted backdrop, and this small, irreverent moment of humor.

Nestled on a gently rolling hillside, the lush green landscape stretches endlessly, showcasing meticulously maintained tea bushes in perfect rows. The vibrant foliage forms a mesmerizing pattern that follows the curves of the terrain, creating a sense of harmony between nature and human cultivation. Scattered across the hillside, small groups of workers can be seen tending to the plants, their presence adding life and purpose to this tranquil vista. In the distance, a few sparse trees break the horizon, while the soft clouds above cast a gentle light over the verdant scene, evoking a peaceful haven of agricultural beauty and hardworking harmony.

Tucked deep in the golden sands of Al-‘Ula lies Hegra, an archaeological marvel that still hums with mystery and time. Though it shares a cultural and architectural lineage with Petra, its sister city in Jordan, Hegra remains virtually unknown to much of the world - a sleeping monument of carved sandstone, weathered by centuries and silence.
As the sun lowers, the rocks burn amber and the desert breathes gold. The monumental formations seem almost staged by ancient hands, their presence both haunting and majestic. And across this vast stage, the tyre marks curve and loop - soft imprints of fleeting visitors in a land that feels eternal.
I found myself mesmerized not just by the towering tombs and weathered cliffs, but by the whorls in the sand. These arcs and circles - left behind by wandering wheels - draw the eye inward like ripples in water. A modern trace in an ancient place. A visual echo of time’s endless return.
Here, the desert isn’t empty. It holds memories in stone and sand, waiting quietly for someone to listen.
